Civil Defense evacuates people from Santo Domingo boardwalk due to Storm Melissa effects

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Civil Defense announced this Thursday that it has been conducting preventive operations along the Santo Domingo boardwalk since the early morning to keep citizens away from the seashore, where strong waves from Tropical Storm Melissa are affecting the Caribbean coast. The operations were overseen by Deputy Director and Head of Operations Delfín Rodríguez and National District Director Alexander García, who emphasized that the initiative aims to prevent loss of life amid the storm’s ongoing impact. “We are maintaining constant surveillance throughout the coastal areas, warning people of the dangers of staying in vulnerable zones across the provinces under alert,” Rodríguez said in an official statement. Authorities reiterated their call for the public to remain cautious, avoid approaching the coastline, and stay informed through official government updates.
